Biddeford, ME

Hi, everyone! I traveled to Biddeford, Maine today to learn how to make a newspaper.

A big fire happened at a local Dairy Queen overnight, so I got this new firefighter's uniform from the newspaper!

I was taught how to put together the pages of the newspaper using QuarkXpress, a computer program which allows editors to make newspaper pages on the computer.

I also took a few telephone calls, and checked pages for spelling mistakes.

Finally, I was allowed to say, "Start the presses!" when it was time to print the newspaper. The press is a very big machine and it was very loud! And look at that huge roll of paper I am sitting on!

I had a lot of fun in Maine. Time for the next adventure!

Wow! Chet, I would love to visit the newspaper. I am surprised you didn't end up covered in ink.

Wow, Chet! What a cool trip! Too bad we aren't closer. That sounds like a great place for a fieldtrip!

Now that is one sanzzy new outfit you have thanks to the news story! I would love to see the newspapers come off that HUGE roll of paper! Makes me think we should arrange a visit to our own local newspaper! You really have great ideas!

Chet,
Hey! It's the Pofferson crew here and we are wondering a few things. First, did the newspaper pay you in donuts because your fireman's suit looks a little snug?
Secondly, it looks like you had a lot of fun answering phones and editing and whatnot, but were there any jobs that you did not enjoy at the newspaper? Did the machines ever break down? Did you fix them? Were you covered in ink? We took a look at what Biddeford, Maine looks like on their city's website and it seems like you could have taken a pretty nice bath in the ocean.

Well, can't wait to see you back at school. The pumpkin display looks awesome! You will love it. :)
